Indian Hills C.C. - Local Rules

Out of Bounds
All areas beyond Out of Bounds stakes at a public road are Out of Bounds. For example if on your tee shot on #3 Choctaw hits the cart path, crosses the road and comes to rest on #4 tee the shot is Out of Bounds and can not be played.

Embedded Ball Rule
Through the green, a ball which is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground, other than sand, may be lifted, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.

Winter Rules and Preferred Lies
The USGA does not endorse “winter rules” and “preferred lies” and recommends that the Rules of Golf be observed uniformly. Ground under repair is provided for in Rule 25 and occasional local abnormal conditions which might interfere with fair play and are not widespread should be defined as ground under repair. However, when the conditions warrant the following local rule will be invoked: A ball lying on a closely-mown area through the green may, without penalty, be moved or may be lifted, cleaned and placed within one club length of where the original ball lay, but not nearer the hole and not in a hazard or on a putting green. A player may move or place his ball once and after the ball has been moved or placed, it is in play.

Please check with the starter to determine if “preferred lies”(winter rules) are in effect

Cherokee

Hole #1 & #8     The cart path on # 8 (only between the white stakes) defines the right boundary (out of bounds) of Hole # 1 and apply only to that hole. It is not applicable to play of hole # 8.

Hole #4 & 5       The opposite hole is to be played as a lateral water hazard. (See Rule 26) The opposite bank and beyond is considered unplayable. Players are not permitted to drive around or cross over to play their ball. Balls may be re-hit from the spot the original ball was last played. A ball may be dropped within two club lengths, no nearer the hole, of where the ball last crossed the margin of the hazard of the hole being played.

Hole #9.            Parking lot is Out of Bounds.

Seminole

Hole #9.            Practice area is out of bounds, you must replay the shot from the place you last played the ball.

Relief from new sod and newly trenched areas
Sod seams and newly trenched areas for lie of ball and area of intended swing only. All seams in the sodden area are considered as the same seam. Drop in the nearest point of relief, no closer to the hole.

Drainage areas filled with large stones
The entire area that is artificially surfaced with large stones is deemed an immovable obstruction (Rule 24-2 applies).

Flower Beds
Flower beds (not flowering bushes) must be treated as ground under repair. Relief is mandatory (Rule 25-1 applies)

Distance-Measuring Devices
A player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only.

Greenside Fans are deemed Temporary Immovable Obstructions (TIO)
Interference by a TIO occurs when (a) the ball lies in front of and so close to the TIO that the TIO interferes with the player's stance or the area of his intended swing, or (b) the ball lies in, on, under or behind the TIO so that any part of the TIO intervenes directly between the player's ball and the hole and is on his line of play. Interference also exists if the ball lies within one club-length of a spot equidistant from the hole where such intervention would exist.

A player may obtain relief from interference by a TIO as follows :(a) the point on the course nearest to where the ball lies must be determined that (a) is not nearer the hole, (b) avoids interference as defined in Clause II and (c) is not in a hazard or on a Putting green. The player must lift the ball and drop it, without penalty, within one club-length of the point so determined on a part of the course that fulfills (a), (b) and (c) above.
